Writing Challenge Day 12 – Write about 5 blessings in your life.
I have many things in my life for which I am thankful and that make me feel blessed. Yet I know that if I were to begin listing them, they have the potential to leave someone without a particular blessing feeling as though they are not blessed because they still have not received that thing with which they desire to be blessed.
For example: I feel blessed to have 2 beautiful daughters (Pocahontas & The Hulk). There may be someone reading this even now who is struggling with infertility or who has passed the age of fertility, that upon reading about the blessing of my daughters, immediately thinks “what is wrong with me that I cannot have a child, or what is so great about her that she got 2?”. I would hate to leave someone feeling less blessed in light of my blessings.
The reality is that everyone is blessed in some way. The Message Bible puts it this way: “He gives his best—the sun to warm and the rain to nourish—to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.” Now you may not be a Bible reader or even a believer and that is just fine, but you have to admit the rain still falls and the sun still shines on everyone, regardless. If rain falls in a neighborhood, it does not generally skip the jerk’s house only to rain on the sweet old lady’s house.
Anyway, I could name 5 things, I could probably name you 20, but today I feel blessed that you even stopped by to read this, really, I do. I am blessed that it is raining outside. I am blessed that the weather has turned warm. I am blessed to be alive, especially at this point in history. And upon hearing the news that Prince died today, I can tell you I am blessed to have had his music and creativity to enjoy in my lifetime!
While I can acknowledge I am blessed, I will also say I believe we have lost the art of blessing others, so I will leave you with a couple of my favorite blessings.
Now go pass on a blessing to someone else today! You never know who might need to hear those words coming from you.
